Interview: Nicky Cakes

Nick Koscianski is a successful affiliate marketer, blogs at NickyCakes.com, and is a WickedFire forum moderator. With the ultimate goal of helping new people succeed in the industry, his no-nonsense approach aims to show newcomers and experienced affiliates the “real” side of online marketing.

Thanks for the interview!
Thanks for asking me to do an interview Jon. I used to ask people to do interviews or guest posts for my blog when I first started it and they all said no, so I make it a point to always say yes when people ask me. Hopefully my answers provide a little insight into the not-so-exciting world of Nickycakes.

Tell us a little background info about yourself. Where are you from? How old are you? How long have you been working in this industry?
I’m originally from Maryland around the Annapolis/Baltimore area, but I’ve lived in a lot of places on the east coast including northern VA and Boston for 5 years. I’m in Vegas now. I’m 26 years old, but if I shave I look about 14. I’ve been working in this industry for only 2 and a half years, but I came a LONG way to get here. I’ve been everywhere from homeless, to jail, to Harvard, to dropping out after my business blew up. I’ve worked a ton of jobs, most of them really bad. Things like construction, data entry, auto parts, 1 hour photo, phone answering, etc. Needless to say, life is much better now.

What accomplishments so far are you the most proud of?
Although I am proud of what I have done business wise, the things I am proud of are mostly related to how much I’ve changed my life which has allowed me to help people outside of my work. As far as the online marketing stuff is concerned, I’m proud of my blog whenever someone contacts me to say they were helped by it. That’s the idea, right?

When did you first realize the full potential in affiliate marketing? When did you first “hit the big time?”
There were 3 days in my short Affiliate Marketing career that I can remember clearly. I had my first $100 day a few months after I started. It was a dating campaign I created on Facebook ads, and I can remember refreshing my stats all day and calling in sick to work (I was working at a stationery store at the time designing business cards and wedding invitations). I quit shortly after. The second day I can remember was my first $1,000 day which was, I think, the first day of ASW ’08. I was staying at the Gold Coast at the time which was like $50 a night, and I can honestly say that first big wire was the first time I had ever had more than $1,000 that I had legally earned in my life. The third day I can remember followed shortly after and was the first time I made over $10k in a day. I couldn’t even work, and said F-it and went to eat ice cream.

What have been your biggest failures and frustrations?
There are no failures as long as you learn from your mistakes. At least that’s what I try to tell myself. I’ve have a few really bad “oops” moments where I bid $80 on ppv traffic when I was supposed to bid $.80 and had my account on auto-refill and blew a few thousand for being a retard. Shame on me for letting that happen more than once, though. Everyone has failed campaigns. If they don’t, they’re lying to you. The more failed campaigns you have, the more successful ones you have, though, unless you’re just stupid.

Frustrations? Not enough time in the day, and using the time I do have wisely. I’m prone to procrastination and playing xbox when I’m supposed to be working, but when I get rolling, I work obsessively. For me, it’s go hard, or go home. There is no happy medium, unfortunately.

What is the single toughest problem you've had to face, and how did you get through it?
I’m going to assume you mean business. The single toughest problem I’ve had in Affiliate Marketing, so far, was getting started. Not because I couldn’t figure things out, but because I assumed there was useful information out there for me to read that would help me get started. I spent about 3 months just reading stupid blogs, forums, etc, which taught me absolutely nothing. Once I realized that most bloggers and all e-books were just out there to scam me, and I started trying things for myself, it was smooth sailing.

Is there anything that you don’t like to do, that you just hate working on?
I hate design. I’m really bad at it, no matter how much I practice so this is the one thing that I often have to pay for. Ideally I’d be able to do everything myself, but I finally gave up that battle and just hire designers.

Just a tip for hiring designers: Ask friends for recommendations. Never just go on some forum or google up some designers to hire. There are so many of them and good ones are really hard to find. Paying a crappy designer who takes too long or just isn’t good enough is the worst.

What’s the best advice you could give to someone starting out in Internet marketing? Any pro tips you feel like disclosing?
I get asked a lot of the same questions over and over by new guys just starting out, which is why I started my newbie guide so I wouldn’t have to repeat myself over and over on msn all day. The single most asked question is one that nobody can really give a right answer to: “Do you think XXXX will work?” Anyone who claims to have an answer to this question in Affiliate Marketing is a fraud. The answer is always the same: “Try it for yourself and see if it works.” Even if I gave you my exact keywords, landing page, offer, payout, etc for a profitable campaign I’m running, there are 100 things that could make your experience different from mine. The ONLY way to succeed is to try things on your own. So stop reading (and yes, your readers are probably reading your blog now looking for this same info) and just get out there and try things.

What is the future of marketing?
Affiliate marketing is still in its early stages. It’s still SO easy to make huge profits compared to any other industry almost. Cakestradamus predicts affiliates will start being consolidated into companies such that individual affiliates will be competing with larger corporations doing the same job as affiliates but on a larger scale. Much like when the software industry was in its infancy, people could start a million dollar software company alone in their garage, but now it is much more difficult to make a million dollar piece of software alone because you are competing with huge corporations with enormous resources and hundreds of coders. This is what affiliate marketing will likely look like in 10 years.

If it’s possible for you to share, are there any particular niches that you currently favor? Or that you aren’t necessarily in right now but that you would recommend?
Anyone who knows me knows I almost never share what I’m doing, even with close friends. Nobody else should either if they care about making money. If you strike oil, keep it secret and milk it till it dies. I put a lot of effort into this too. People are constantly trying to find out what you’re promoting. When you link to a network with your referral code, they can use that to find your campaigns. Oh you don’t have 2 accounts at the networks you use so you can use a separate referral id from your campaigns? Your bad.

How has your education prepared you for your career?
I learned almost nothing that I could put to practical use in my job by attending school other than math and some econ. The rest is good for impressing girls, though.

What are your greatest strengths?
I’m at the top of the leaderboard among all my friends for gun accuracy in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and I never snipe or use shotguns.

What are your greatest weaknesses?
I’ve never been really good at RTS games like Starcraft, even though I’ve put many many hours into them.

What is the best advice you’ve been given and try to apply to your life?
Never get mad at things that are out of your control. I can’t control people who don’t know how to drive, I can’t control the weather, I can’t control the advertisers merchant account getting shut down, I can’t control other people’s stupidity. Getting mad at these things won’t make them better, they’ll make me worse. I CAN control my actions, though. And I can get mad when I screw things up. So the things you can control, do them well.

Do you have any role models or people that you look up to?
I admire anyone who brags about how much they gave to charity or how much they helped people rather than how much they put in their bank account or how much they spent on themselves. That’s the sign of a true baller.

Who has impacted you most in your career, and how?
When I first started I had a crappy day job and could barely afford to pay for $25 in traffic per day and still eat. My first profitable campaign was being bottlenecked by cashflow, obviously, and Scott Richter, owner of Affiliate.com (they were CPAEmpire at the time), called me up and offered to loan me $2k to get my campaign rolling. Normally I hate to owe anyone anything, but that is what pushed this thing from a hobby to a career in 1 week. These days, the people that impact my career most are the guys who were kinda newbies when I was a newbie and are now all successful. Really good to see everyone making it, although plenty don’t.

Do you try to keep current with the latest Internet marketing news at all? What or who are your main sources?
I have to keep up with current events a bit just for the blog. Hard to be an authority on Affiliate Marketing if I don’t keep up with things, obviously. But if I didn’t have the blog to write for, I would make a serious effort to NEVER read ANY news about ANYTHING. If you think about it, it’s a complete waste of time. Anything important going on in the world you’re going to hear from a friend anyway. Staying current on the latest celeb gossip does nothing to improve my life or my business.

What kinds of people do you have difficulties working with? Any good stories?
I get along with people pretty well, but I can’t stand fake people, and there are PLENTY in this industry. You see them all the time at trade shows. They are the used car salesmen of the Affiliate Marketing industry. Usually they are the management or PR guys at the bigger corporate affiliate networks. They have never run a campaign in their lives and are not involved at all in the day-to-day operations of the network so they have NO idea what affiliates want, but they love to pay people to write nice things about them, or take affiliates out to lunch and pretend to be your best friend, etc. Here’s a good story: MarketLeverage has a phone booth that swirls $1 bills around in it that they expect affiliates to jump in and get all excited about grabbing $5. Guess what, your target demographic are people who make 5 figures a day. Idiots.

What are some of your long-term goals? How much is enough? If money was no object, what would you be doing?
Most people’s long term goals involve building a bigger business and more responsibility for themselves. I think they’ve got it backwards. My long term goals involve building a business that requires less work for me so I have time to build a family and spend time doing things I love, like traveling. This is also my short term goal, by the way, and I’m already living it. That’s why I love this business.

What are your typical hours like? When do you just chill back? Do you have a usual day off?
I work harder than I want, and I work longer than I want, usually. I get obsessed with what I’m doing and just can’t stop. I often work a lot longer hours than most 9-5’ers do, but the difference is, I love my job. I have too many days off and I “chill back” far too much for my own good.

How do you like to spend your free time? What doe work-life balance mean to you?
I like to spend my free time these days traveling, watching football/basketball, playing xbox, and spending time with my friends and family. I also am pretty into restaurants so I go out to eat a lot.

If you could go back to being 18, what different career choices would you make?
My life was pretty F’d up when I was 18, but I wouldn’t change any of it since it all got me where I am today, and I’m very happy with where I’m at.

If your Kindergarten teacher saw you now, what would surprise him/her about how you turned out?
I don’t know about my Kindergarten teacher, but most of my teachers from middle and high school would be surprised to know I’m alive, let alone doing well.

What would you like to change about yourself?
As I’ve said, I’m pretty comfortable with life these days. Nobody’s perfect, but as long as I recognize when I screw up and learn from my mistakes, I’m on the right track.

What is your greatest achievement outside of work? What are some of your unfulfilled dreams?
That’s easy. Going from being a complete detriment to society in the worst ways to being a productive member of society, and doing my best to help people along the way. I won’t go into too many details about that, but anyone who asks me personally I’m always more than happy to talk with about it.

As for unfulfilled dreams… I’m living them.

Keep it real!

Win A Trip To The AzoogleAds LA Playboy Mansion Party

When I let AzoogleAds know about my affiliate marketing guide, being the epic affiliate network that they are, decided to hook up the readers of the guide and give two lucky winners a very special prize.

If you have not heard about the AzoogleAds LA weekend trip / Playboy mansion party, it is an amazing event. Azoogleads takes the top 40 (incremental) publishers to an all expenses paid weekend with the final day being a huge party at the playboy mansion.

I personally went last year to spend the weekend with Azoogleads (but didn't go to the mansion). It was amazing being able to spend time with some of the smartest minds in the industry. Besides just having fun, I really learned a ton and gained a bunch of great friendships.

Now, not everyone can be a top 40 publisher for a huge network like Azoogleads, but this is where this prize comes into play.

In order to win it, all you need to have done is read my entire affiliate marketing guide and be one of the first to get 100% right on the quiz.

So without further ado, take the quiz now.

Good luck and I hope to see you there!

EDIT: No winner officially announced yet - remember you need 100% right to win so you might still have a chance! (I don't have access to see if there is a winner or not)

Increasing Form Sign Ups

The other day my friend Dan showed me this awesome post on increasing form sign ups using a "mad lib" type style instead of a traditional form style.

The post is here.

In this post, the author shares how he saw this mad lib style sign up form and decided to test the form out on his own site.

Apparently doing this increased his form conversions by 25-40%!!! That is crazy awesome! I would MUCH rather fill out the form on the right than the form on the left.

This type of creative thinking is one of the things I LOVE seeing online.

This leads me to my point. It's really important to let your personality show through your website.

Google for example includes awesome easter eggs all over their website via searches like this.

Some other sites that come to mind when I think about this:

What are some others that you can think of?

When you think of these websites, you may love or hate them, but the fact is whatever you do, the company or individuals personality shows through the website.

Small things like showing your personality makes a huge difference in the way your site feels and as a result can lead to huge increases in conversions (and in my opinion trust).

Just like Shane Dollas says, "be willing to think out of the box."

Interview: David Ford

David Ford is the author of the PPV Playbook marketing guide. In addition to being a full time affiliate for the last 5 years, he runs a PPV coaching program and active forum.

In my free affiliate marketing guide, I talk about PPV and HIGHLY recommend David's PPV Coaching program. I am a member of his coaching forum and enjoy it very much.

Tell us a little background info about yourself. Where are you from? How old are you? How long have you been working in this industry?
I am 34 years old from California. I have been doing affiliate marketing for about 8 years now. It started as a way to make extra money while I was working a computer tech support job and just kind of took off from there.

What accomplishments so far are you the most proud of?
I would say the thing I am most proud of is being a successful affiliate year after year. I know a lot of people who have had higher income months than me but I know very few who have been able to succeed in this business year after year.

When did you first realize the full potential in affiliate marketing? When did you first "hit the big time?"
I think the first year I did affiliate marketing I made about $18k. By the next year I was earning more than I was at my day job and I started to think I could make a business out of this. I still worked my day job for a while because I wanted to make sure I would be able to keep my income stable then eventually quit.

What have been your biggest failures and frustrations?
I don't really look at anything as a failure since I always learn something from it. I've definitely been frustrated when campaigns don't work out, networks don't pay, etc. but I try not to let it get to me.

Is there anything that you don't like to do, that you just hate working on?
Writing used to be something I really didn't look forward to. I have been working on it lately and am starting to enjoy it more.

What's the best advice you could give to someone starting out in Internet marketing?
You always hear people say 'don't read blogs or forums, just do it.' I like to take more of a balanced approach. I think it's great to read blogs and forums if you also do as much or more actual work. I know affiliates who know a lot about affiliate marketing from all the reading they do but they rarely put anything into action. Aside from that I would say focus on one thing. Stop jumping around from this system to that technique, etc. Focus on one thing and get good at it, then expand your skill set.

Any pro tips you feel like disclosing?
I don't know if this is a 'pro tip' but I have always found success by taking other people's ideas and making them my own. I rarely do well just trying to copy someone who is successful.

What is the future of marketing?
I think marketing online will always be around in some form. Will it change?
Of course! The thing about affiliate marketing from the merchant side is that you can potentially have tons of 'employees' working for you and driving sales who you don't have to provide an office, etc to. I think for that reason, affiliate marketing will be around in some form for a long time.

If it's possible for you to share, are there any particular niches that you currently favor? Or that you aren't necessarily in right now but that you would recommend?
I favor lead generation offers. I have found success in niches that most people would probably find boring.

How has your education prepared you for your career?
I think the most important thing I learned was problem solving, and the ability to see things from different viewpoints.

What are your greatest strengths?
I work too hard, I care too much, and I listen too well.

What are your greatest weaknesses?
Well, my strengths are actually my weaknesses. (Sorry, joke from 'The Office')

What is the best advice you've been given and try to apply to your life?
That change is a part of life. There are good times and bad times so just realize that everything is a phase and there is something to learn from it.

Do you have any role models or people that you look up to?
My girlfriend doesn't know this but I look up to her in a lot of ways. She is a successful affiliate but has expanded her business so she has multiple streams of income coming in. That's something I really want to work towards.
I also love that she is so creative and always coming up with unique ideas.

Who has impacted you most in your career, and how?
I wouldn't say there was any one person in particular. When I was first starting out, I would try to talk to every successful affiliate I could find. I think the main thing I learned from that is that everyone who was successful wasn't doing anything secret or unique, they were just working hard. Once I started really working hard, the money started coming in.

Do you try to keep current with the latest Internet marketing news at all? What or who are your main sources?
Yes, I usually read Affbuzz.com to catch up on what affiliates are talking about.

What kinds of people do you have difficulties working with? Any good stories?
People who are really controlling or want things their own way with no compromise. It's really hard to partner with someone even if it seems like your personalities are similar.

What are some of your long-term goals? How much is enough? If money was no object, what would you be doing?
For me it's not so much a dollar amount but the ability to keep working from home, to have lots of free time, and enough money to travel and live comfortably. I always want to make more money but I try to balance work with the rest of my life. If money was no object I would probably be doing something with animals.

What are your typical hours like? When do you just chill back? Do you have a usual day off?
My girlfriend does the same type of work so we bought a couch to put in my office. She is usually working there on her laptop and me on my desktop. I don't follow a set schedule. Usually we work for a few hours then take a break to play a game of dominoes, go feed the ducks, or eat. Some days we work more, some less but we both like working so it's not hard to do.

How do you like to spend your free time? What does work-life balance mean to you?
I am a big fan of old movies. I'm making my way through AFI's (American Film
Institute) list of the top 100 movies of all time. I am about 80% done. I like to get a sense of what things were like in different periods of time (at least they way it is interpreted thorough movies). I work almost every day but I try to balance that with a lot of other activities.

If you could go back to being 18, what different career choices would you make?
I would start affiliate marketing earlier for sure! Although, I think having a day job for so many years really made me appreciate being able to work from home so much more.

If your Kindergarten teacher saw you now, what would surprise him/her about how you turned out?
Hmm. Probably that I'm not as shy as I used to be.

What would you like to change about yourself?
That I didn't like to sleep in so late!

What is your greatest achievement outside of work? What are some of your unfulfilled dreams?
I think my greatest achievement is raising a happy, healthy child as a mostly single dad. I want to do a lot more traveling and have more animals.
Eventually I want to have an otter habitat at my house.

How To Track Referrals With Aweber

A lot of people have been asking me about how I am doing the referral script for the free affiliate marketing guide that I launched just a few days ago.

First, if you have not heard about this referral contest, go sign up for the free affiliate marketing guide and then you'll see details there. Essentially the top two referrers get an Apple iPad as well as a randomized winner will receive an iPad.

Quick plug: There is going to be another contest that is related to this guide that has a prize worth THOUSANDS of dollars and is pretty crazy awesome. Sponsored by my favorite affiliate network... :) But that's all I can right now.

Anyways...

It's a custom script but really easy to setup so I decided to show you how you can do this type of thing as well.

Before I do, I want to be clear that the idea was not even mine. Jeremy "Shoemoney" called me the day before my affiliate marketing guide launched and walked me through different ideas on how to make the launch even better including the referral contest idea. Thanks a lot Jeremy! :)

The way that I am doing this referral script is using aweber. I use aweber to capture emails.

Aweber allows you to have custom variables, so I setup a custom variable called ref. You have to setup the variable in aweber's system before you do this or it wont work.

Then what I did is setup my email capture page to automatically get any variable from the url and put it into the awber form as the variable ref. Here is the code you put into your aweber form between the form tags.

Note: You need to use the raw html version instead of the Javascript version of the aweber form.

Get this code here.

After you have placed that, anyone who goes to Yoursignuppage.php?ref={putwhateverhere} will automatically have the {putwhateverhere} put into the custom variable area and sent to aweber.

Then to track, you can download your lead report via Aweber and instantly see who who has referred who in the ref column.

So there you have it. Simple enough right?

Knowing Your Demographics – Women…

In my free affiliate marketing guide, I touch on knowing your demographics and the importance of it.

In pretty much every method (PPC, PPV, Media buying, and Social Media) that is taught in the guide, it's important for you to know your demographics.

The other day, I was reading through some posts and saw a really good post on Clickbooth's blog about women ages 35-55. This blog post is a good way to begin some research on knowing that particular demographic.

Check out the article. Good stuff.

Also, you should notice that my puppy Oliver, is the fan of the week. :D Clickbooth sent me a snuggie for Christmas (with their logo on it) and my dog took it over! He loves that blanket so I took a picture and tweeted it. Hehe. Pretty cute.

Interview: Ian Fernando

The Friday Affiliate Interview for this week is with Ian Fernando. Ian Fernando is an influential blogger and affiliate marketer. His views and insights have been seen all over the Internet as he provides useful tools and tips on online marketing, affiliate marketing, blogging, and related topics. His blog, IanFernando.com, is geared to providing substantive advice to the up and coming online entrepreneur.

Tell us a little background info about yourself. Where are you from? How long have you been working in this industry?
I am from New Jersey. I have been in Jersey my whole life and definitely love it here, except the cold, other than that I enjoy it here. I have been in the affiliate industry for about 3 years. Which I think is fairly young.

What accomplishments so far are you the most proud of?
Having the ability to speak to other marketers at Affiliate Summit. I think that is one of the biggests milestone in my life. I wouldn't even see myself as a speaker, but it def was a great experience and want to thank Shawn Collins for giving me the opportunity to speak.

When did you first realize the full potential in affiliate marketing? When did you first “hit the big time?”
First I started with ebay, making and selling old stuff I could find around my house or going to flea markets and buy things in bulk for cheap to sell. The problem I had most and did not like was dealing with customer support and talking deals. I was young and all I needed and wanted was to earn a profit.
Then I found affiliate marketing...
I first started making niche related websites with eBay, Linkshare, and Share a Sale. I was building multiple sites and just pushing traffic to them however I can. When I first received my first 100$ check I was super excited about affiliate marketing. The fact that I didn't have to deal with customer support was the best.
One of the biggest accomplishments was working with Azoogle, which they helped me get to where I am today. I worked on one offer which they recommended, I pushed my first Google adwords campaign and then it just was a big roller coaster from there.
I then met up with them in NY, it was when I first met you Jon. My AM Erin, definitely gave me some great advice and tools to my advantage to further grow my business.

What have been your biggest failures and frustrations?
Starting something and not able to finish it. It definitely frustrates me. I can start a project put my time and effort in it and later find it in the 'do later' pile. I started a pretty unique way to display affiliate offers in an adsense style box for webmasters.
But the issues rise with affiliate networks not wanting to release their public api in full to me and my programmer. It is a roadblock that I got into and have no clue how to get around it. So that was put on the side. I do want to get back into it, but it is sitting in the 'do later' pile.

What is the single toughest problem you've had to face, and how did you get through it?
Sitting in my house in front of my computer and then my mind wanders. This is by far the toughest thing I have to cater to. I still have this problem, because I live by myself and I spend 97% of the time in my office.
So what I try to do is go to the other room and try to do something else, like clean my house, do the laundry, something to get me off my computer. Then after I feel relaxed I go back and I seem to get focused.
But a shot of Red Bull or a cup of coffee usually get me back in focus too.

Is there anything that you don’t like to do, that you just hate working on?
I hate doing repetitive research. For example if an advertiser decides to change their landing page design. Conversions decrease and then I have to figure out why. This happened to me when I was doing dating on mobile traffic. I cried...
Even though research is important, it does annoy me most of the time especially if I have something that is already working.

What’s the best advice you could give to someone starting out in Internet marketing? Any pro tips you feel like disclosing?
Read and Fail. The best part is to take advice, try it, and fail at it. I don't look at mistake or money lost as 'damn this sucks' more like 'cool I got more data.'
It kinda flips the mindset a little bit. So when I get data I try to analyze it and think forward. The problem with a lot of marketers is they get excited and try to repeat exactly what they did and then they lose money. Sometimes it doesn't always work like that.
The best thing to do is get into it. There is a lot of info products out there that will show you how to do it, but they can't hold your hand - even if they say they do.
Just see the failures as more data to analyze.

What is the future of marketing?
In our industry, affiliate marketing, I think more and more affiliates will be more cautious. With everything happening with Google and the FTC, more affiliates will either die out or look for different traffic sources and conquer it.
I also see that Tier 1 search traffic will not be used as much, with so much more traffic networks coming up it is easy to leave Google's fancy algorithm and utilize other traffic sources.

If it’s possible for you to share, are there any particular niches that you currently favor? Or that you aren’t necessarily in right now but that you would recommend?
It all depends on my traffic sources, I use to be a ringtone guy back in the day. I use to cater a lot during the holidays and different seasons as well. It all really depends. Some I am more focused on, others while I am just throwing traffic because I need to.
What I do is I ask or mass blast the networks I want to work with on what the best offer is best to promote on Facebook, Google, etc.
I usually analyze the data from all the networks and then choose a niche or offer. I then start my research and go from there. I don't have a set vertical really. But when I am focus on a vertical that is what I only want to focus on.

How has your education prepared you for your career?
Absolutely none, I am a college drop out. I took up Management Information Systems back in college. I went to school for about 2.5 years and decided to stop. The reason is because I was not able to pass 2 classes to advance myself to take the necessary classes to continue. So I decided to stop.
Funny thing is I still use my college business books to help me with some marketing or business decisions.

What are your greatest strengths?
Ideas and executing them. I have crazy ideas and I try to get it done as fast as possible. I will spend my time and money to get it done and get it where it needs to be. If I have an idea for a landing page, I jump on it and push it out to test.
I try not to wait on my idea, especially if it is an offer I am currently working on.

What are your greatest weaknesses?
Too many ideas. With ideas being one of my strengths I tend to have too many. Again most will go to my 'do later' pile. I want to do these projects but time never seems to be there for me to do it. So while it is one of my biggest strengths it is also my weakness.

What is the best advice you’ve been given and try to apply to your life?
Stick to one thing and reach the end goal. This is true. You need to just focus on one thing and make it work and if it works, start duplicating it.
For me I try to implement this but I get to 75% and then I get to another idea or another campaign. After 75% of that being completed I get to another offer. I just have ADD I think. In 2010 I think I am going to focus on just one or 2 things and reach the end goal in its full.

Do you have any role models or people that you look up to?
Wes from Tracking202 just because his attitude is so focused. He wants to reach his goals and he definitely is reaching them. I wish I could be as focused as he is. He definitely has some great insights and ideas. He is also a powerful influencer, I mean just the attitude he brings can def change a person on how they do their business.

Who has impacted you most in your career, and how?
I have a mastermind group and these guys keep me on track. We are not just a monthly mastermind meetup, they are great friends and I definitely consider my family.
If I am down I can tell them my issues and they can suggests something and get my back. Even though it's just 3 of us, they keep me focused on what to do. If I haven't met these guys, I don't know what I would be up to. Definitely great to have these guys in my circle.

Do you try to keep current with the latest Internet marketing news at all? What or who are your main sources?
Of course, AFFBuzz is the site that I read all the time. I also have some RSS feeds within my Google Reader, but Affbuzz is my main source. I def want to keep up with our industry because it changes so much. Traffic sources to new popular offers. These things change on a daily basis.

What kinds of people do you have difficulties working with? Any good stories?
Unreliable people. I don't like talking to someone then we work together. The progress works well in the beginning and then slacking starts to kick in. It kinda sucks that there is a good synergy in the beginning and then it dies out.
The reason I think is because they see a couple dollars and then they get excited and tend to mess things up from their excitement. Even though I tell them they need to control that energy.
It is hard to find users who are as focused as I am.

What are some of your long-term goals? How much is enough? If money was no object, what would you be doing?
One of my long term goals is to have something more reoccurring. I do promote a lot of affiliate programs with reoccurring income because I can guarantee a set amount. The problem is that most are net45.
So with that in mind, I want to get several membership sites up with just a couple members each. This way it becomes fixed and it is all maintenance from there.
If money wasn't an issue, I would just travel the world in its entirety. Be a nomad just go from country to country exploring.

What are your typical hours like? When do you just chill back? Do you have a usual day off?
I wake up, make my coffee, have breakfast, check my emails, download my stats and then I work. I usually start to chill after I have lunch. Lunch can be at 12pm or 1pm or even at 8pm, depends on what I am doing or how focused I am.
My day off is usually Sunday. I just relax, check my stats, and that is about it.

How do you like to spend your free time? What doe work-life balance mean to you?
When I am in Jersey I just stay home and relax and have friends over. Or if I am with a group of friends, clubbing, bars, or group activities. Recently I went white water rafting for the first time. Definitely a great experience.
Work and Life, hmmmm...
Well I do not look at what I do as a job. I like what I do. I like the challenges it brings to me. But I def need to enjoy life more because I do sit in front of my PC most of my day. I know that isn't healthy but it really doesn't bother me too much.
I always try to hang out with friends that are focused or that do not hate me for growing up form where I came from. Once I started getting to where I am, I lost a lot of friends but gained a lot of respect that decided to give me the respect.

If you could go back to being 18, what different career choices would you make?
I would definitely got into affiliate marketing sooner. Just the fact it is fairly easy to start making your first dollar. If I wasn't so young but more focused on money then I would have def taken a chance with affiliate marketing at an early age.
When I first got into the Internet space, I did a bunch of everything. So at 18 I would have just done affiliate marketing and gained more knowledge.
Because at the age of 18 I was in school and on the road to get a job. If I am as focused as I am now I might have been a 9-5 guy.

If your kindergarten teacher saw you now, what would surprise him/her about how you turned out?
A lot of my teachers growing up said that I would be famous one day. I do not know if they had to say that to make me feel better. But I think they would be proud.
But one teacher I had in middle school would be surprised at where I am because I made her cry back in the day in class, where they had to get the hall guard to pull me out.
That is another story...

What would you like to change about yourself?
I don't know. If I change myself I wouldn't be where I am now. If I had to, I think the only thing I would change about myself is being more focused and following through. Again, I tend to digress form what I am doing.
I need to just focus on the end goal and get to it and see that I get to it properly. I also want to be able to read faster. That is another thing I want to change about myself. It does take me a while to read a book because, my eyes tend to fall asleep on me.

What is your greatest achievement outside of work? What are some of your unfulfilled dreams?
Traveling most definitely. My dad traveled the world and I see his pictures in Egypt, Spain, etc. Ever since I was young I always wanted to go to places he wasn't able to go. I was able to travel to Japan, Panama, Morocco and numerous places within the US.
I enjoy traveling because it keeps me sane.
I know there is a bunch of things that I need to do before I die. I definitely want to skydive, its one of the things I've been wanting to do.
