My Little Sister’s Bday Party

Warning: No internet marketing content below. ;)

This last weekend was pretty awesome. It was my little sisters 21st birthday party. Because she is the last child, my parents (and oldest sister, Jenee’) went a little bit crazy with this party. It was all out!

The theme my sister wanted was Alice in Wonderland.

First, they built out a smaller door that you had to go through to get to the front door. This first door was only about 2½ to 3 feet tall, so you had to duck down to get in.

When you walked in… this is what you saw. Many of them had LED lights in them so they glowed at night.

In another part of the house, my dad had made a hand painted (I forgot how good he was!) mad hatter board. My grandma was the first to try it out as you can see below. ;)

Then, there is the cake my sister Jenee made. This thing was amazingly good and looked really cool! I think it fit the theme really well.

To top all of that off, my dad decided to make an appearance as “the mad coiler” as he called himself. The name is a reference to… well, the next picture. This is my little sister and dad in costume.

Finally, there is my favorite part of the night, the Tesla Coil. This tesla coil my dad and I put together when I was around 13ish. By that I mean he put it together and I watched and helped with little small things. Before the party, my dad refinished it, replaced the capacitor, added a new rotary gap, etc.

This one put out roughly a million volts from the top toroid, which resulted in 3-4 ft electrical bolts.

If you want a video, you should check out youtube, they have em all over there (and we couldn’t get a good video). It’s pretty awesome.

Here is a photo that the hired photographer, Kanoa Utler (who also took some amazing photos at my wedding), took over a timed exposure. I think it turned out extremely awesome!!!

The yellow light you see in the BG was us holding a florescent light bulb that would light up in your hand with no connection simply because of the high voltage. (Or something like that…)

All in all, an amazingly fun night! A TON of people showed up (like standing room only…) but it was great fun. Good times.
