Giving Back

As you can see in my goals, I have always had a heart to give back to the community with the money that is generated through affiliate marketing.

As I write today about some of the charities I give to, my hopes is you will as well begin to contribute as well. :)

Here are some of the charities I give to.

  • Harvest Church (You can view the video of our remodel project which is really cool). Harvest Church is my home church and as a Christian it's important that I tithe 10% and give offerings. I enjoy giving to my church because they use the money for effecting peoples lives which is the most important thing.
  • GodLovesKids. This is a charity that I support regularly (every month). I sponsor children both young up to college age from both India and Africa. The reason why I love this charity is because of the results they have achieved. First, they are all about the whole, "teaching a kid how to fish, rather than giving them a fish." The money donated goes towards education costs of these under privileged children.

Those are the two main charities that I regularly contribute to as well as some others on an irregular basis.

I encourage you as you continue to grow in your internet marketing earnings to always give a portion back to seeing people touched for the better.

This post was inspired in part by Purpose inc.. He seems to be all about Charity which is one aspect I really appreciate about him. :)

playing-card-200wLast year and this year, DK, ran a charity poker event comprised of many of the top people in the industry. It's sponsored in part by my favorite affiliate network, AzoogleAds as well as a bunch of other top rate companies. :)

Some of the attendees included Shoemoney and his partner.

Great work giving back Jonathan. You should consider some non-religious charities too. There are plenty of worthwhile charities that don’t revolve around brainwashing people :)

      • Bob says:

Brainwashing people- are you serious? Religious charities have been taking care of the poor and needy WAY before it became politically correct to do so. You need to move out of the dark ages….people go because they choose to go, not because they are brainwashed – just like you obviously choose not to go.

        • ATV for Sale says:

It’s great that religious charities help so many people. It would just be nice if they didn’t make religion such a big part of the help they are giving. Would they be helping all those people if it wasn’t such a good opportunity to convince them to join their religion?

    2. Dino says:

Its always good to give back Jon, like ATV said i would consider also giving to other charities. Either way i wish i could donate more if i was earning more. Regardless Jon great work! Love the blog!

    3. Bryan says:

Congrats on giving so much back to the money. Tithing is a great way to help others, even those who don’t believe in a higher authority, as churches are a great place for moral support and love.

    4. Jonathan says:

I really want to go but far outside of what I can do right now. My church will also receive a lot of money from me as well when I start making the big bucks.

    5. LukePeerFly says:

I look forward to the day when I will be making enough to give back. As it is college is pretty expensive and I don’t quite make enough yet. The day will come though :)

    6. daydaily.com says:

wow, you had a lot of sponsor
      how could you do that?
      cheers from me :D

    7. Ryan Gray says:

      Jonathan,

That is excellent man. I personally have also been very blessed to have a lot of success at a young age. I always like to be very generous to my local church as well as several charities.

While it’s nice to treat yourself to rewards, nothing is more fulfilling than making a difference by giving.

      • Raise money for a charity. If you really want to contribute to a charity, you need to support it in every way you can. You can send letters to corporations and ask for their support in whatever way they can help or you can go door to door and ask your neighbors for whatever donations they can spare. Lastly, you can ask your family and friends to contribute to the charity. No matter what you decide, contributing to charities can be very rewarding.

    8. It’s great to see people like you, who make tons of money ,actually caring about others :)

    9. Derek says:

As the others have commented, you are to be commended for your work in giving back to the causes that you feel strongly about. Like you, we have a few core charities that we support in our household and we feel fortunate to be able to give something back.

In addition to the distant charities where you simply send money, I highly recommend getting involved with a local charity where you can contribute more than money. Seeing the faces of the people that you are helping warms the heart like nothing else.

      • Yup! Two ways to see someone’s heart: Time and money. Time is the other part that I didnt personally touch on, however I volunteer each week for my youth group as a drummer and small group leader.

    10. How much money has passed thru your hands in a lifetime?

    11. Contributing to charities can be as simple as writing a check or as complicated as raising money for them–decide how involved you want to be

    12. Kira says:

Thats cool that you’re giving back jon..

You should give your CPA Tsunami course to the Kira Needs CPA Tsunami fund. :]

YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO! >:O

    13. It really is gratifying to see the trend of internet marketers giving back is just getting stronger and stronger. Our businesses are ultimately built on peopel, and by being supported so well by so many, it is only right that we spport the less priviledged in return. Compassion is one of tehegreat attributes of humanity that shows me there is hope for this crazy world.

    14. Eric Nagel says:

A few years ago, we were with a church w/ a minimum annual mandatory donation (oxymoron?) which we struggled to keep up with. We left that church for another, things improved for me, and we’re now donating 8x the previous “minimum”. Give what you can – even if it’s not money – and you’ll be rewarded.

    15. groneg says:

People who don’t donate are the 1st to criticise. Nice going buddy. Donating is a great way to remember how good we have it.

    16. paul says:

Very cool of you to give back. Continue to post more about your charitable efforts…it is nice to read.

    17. Brad says:

Your a good person! ~ I strongly agree that everyone should do this.

    18. One thing I wanted to comment on: Some people say they will give when they have a lot. It doesn’t start there. Giving starts at whatever level because no matter how much you have, there is always just a bit of sting to giving money. It’s just when you have more, there are more zeros.

    19. Being a Christian how do you deal with promoting affiliate offers (when let’s be honest) most of them are pretty shady.

Yes people are dumb and when they input their credit card act surprised when 10 days later they are subscribed to some $59 a month “special program” but I’m sure you know that no one would willingly join one of these and based on the posts you write on your blog I’m assuming you aren’t pushing many real products i.e. Amazon Affiliate Program

Thoughts? (not an attack, I’m just curious how you justify the stuff you make money on or perhaps you stick to the less shady stuff?)

    20. JimBob says:

Lets see, you scam innocent people with /shady affiliate offers, then give some of it back to other people in need so you feel a bit better about yourself… How Noble…

    21. Jenny says:

john, i would love to give to charities! just gotta pay my mortgage first, my long time goals are to be able to donate to charity.

    22. sheeple says:

I always hate seeing what I assume are great people get sucked into the scams that are churches. Sure, they do offer a place to meet and network with other, usually decent, people and sometimes do good things. But there is no reason they can’t do that stuff without the church and probably make even more impact on those they would like to help.

churches are one of the slickest business models ever invented. Low opperating cost, tons of easily trained customers and free money ordained by “god” (god suggest 10% because that’s how he works) for the life of the customer.

One HUGE thing that has always bothered me…the pastor likes to suggest that worldly belongings are not important around the time the offering plate is going around. Then after the service he gets into his $90k Mercedes and goes home to his mini mansion. Let me put it like this, if the pastor is driving a nicer car than my parents have ever driven then there is some problem with peoples perception of what is going on at said church. Either the paster is making a killing with all the sheeple paying away 10%+ of their livelyhoods or they are already well off (some other scam?) and not practicing what they are preaching by living way beyond their earthly needs. Of course hypocrisy is a huge part of religion, especially those making profits off it, but it’s always frustrating seeing decent people line up to drink the coolaid.

Jon you seem like a great guy and seem to legitimately care about people in general. And of course you must be smart and hard working to have gotten where you are today. It’s just a shame that, despite that, you give credit for those personality traits to an imaginary figure and religion/chruch that profits off that blind following.

      • You must have been hurt in the past because your perception of the church is way skewed. In most churches, pastors do not get an increase in salary based on how much the people put in the offering that week. It’s set to a standard wage for the area they live in.

        • sheeple says:

No, I was never hurt Jon. I’m actually pretty happy in my life. I’m just aware and observant and have seen a lot of things that bothered me when I have been dragged to various churches with friends or SO’s in the past.

I’m just saying, you seem like too smart of a guy to fall into it all. And if you follow “gods rule of 10%” (one of the things that always bothered me…that’s a CHURCH/business “rule”. What happened to making donations on your own will rather than being told you have to give 10%?) then we can assume you are giving your churches 30k a month? That much money could go to more direct causes where you know the needy are getting most of it. Or better yet, with that amount you could start your own charity and give it out exactly as you feel is needed.

One question to help put my mind at ease…that harvest church you donated to…what kind of car does the pastor drive?

And just to be clear, none of this is meant to be a direct attack at you, Jon, or to offend you at all. You honestly do seem like a pretty good guy which is why it sucks to see you get milked like that. But then again, if it makes you feel good and such then I guess it is worth it right?

It’s kind of the same way I feel bad for Tom Cruise…I’m sure it makes sense to him and makes him feel part of something important but doesn’t he ever stop to think about it all?

          • Actually 10% is just tithe. I give offerings as well. It’s all about your heart. Although the dollar amount I give is not relevant.

My pastor drives an old blue toyota truck, no radio, stick shift.
My youth pastor drives a Sabb. The front door’s lock doesnt work, his windows no longer roll down (he had to duck tape them up at one point), etc.

The reason they don’t have nicer cars? Because they themselves are dedicated to the cause and even though they have less income than a lot of people give way more on a percentage than most people.

If you think money could go to other causes and be a better usage you’re wrong. Other charities charge administrational fees usually in the 10-20%. When I write a check out to an Indian orphanage and give it through my church for example, 100% of it goes directly to the orphanage.

I choose to give through my church because of that. :)

Lastly, it’s not about feeling good. I can feel good just by going and kissing my wife. ;) It’s about changing people’s lives.

I do appreciate your points however!

            Thanks,
            JV

            • Props to you Johnathan. I’m a Christian as well and it’s unfortunate that many people don’t get what being a Christian is all about. Giving money in my opinion (no matter what amount) has nothing to do with someone “qualifying” as a good or bad Christian. It’s about having faith in God and what he has done.

If you don’t believe then I hope one day you will but I don’t judge. That’s God’s job. There are a lot of Christian haters out there but also a lot of over-the-top bible pushers as well who that turn away non-Christians.

I have a lot of non-Christians friends and they should no more judge me for being a Christian than I should for them holding their own beliefs.

I also DO run some continuity programs. It depends on the offer. I curse and I love beer. I’m not proud of some of the offers I’ve run in the past but it doesn’t disqualify me or anyone as a Christian. It doesn’t work that way. There are no perfect Christians and being a Christian is a lot more than a word it’s holding a belief.

    23. Jeff says:

      Jon,

Thanks for sharing your faith, actions and beliefs- and being bold.

It’s good to see – will pray for prosperity in your businesses, faith & marriage.
