Working at home certainly can take a toll on your body. Besides the stress of running a business, you have countless hours working in home from a computer day in and day out.

I used to be fairly skinny when I was a teenager, but now while I'm not fat, after working 2 years at home am about 15 pounds over my ideal weight.

So because of this I have been trying a few things to keep myself healthy and lose a bit of weight.

First, I've been working out with a friend 1 day a week. While 1 day a week isn't much, it's a start. My friend, Kanoa, always pushes me to work out harder than I ever would by myself. Finding a friend is really the single most important factor in working out from my experience.

Before working out with a friend, I would run a few laps, get tired, do a few crunches, and then remember everything I needed to do at the business.

But with a friend, I am pushed past that point of wanting to quit and it actually feels great after the fact.

Next: My 7 day Challenge.
I am an avid Coke (coca cola) fan. I would drink 6 cokes a day if I could. Sadly that lifestyle is probably the single most contributing factor to my slight weight gain.

So starting yesterday (friday), I have decided to try to go 7 days without any soda. Today is day 2. I guess you never realize how addicted you are to something until you try to give it up.

To substitute my desire for coke I am going to drink things such as vitamin water, propel water, and good ol' regular water. While these have calories, the ratio of calories to coke is much less and gives me the much needed FLAVOR in my drinks.

So that being said, I urge you to follow along as well if you're working full time at home. Lets see how we feel after a few months of healthier living. :)

I suppose Diet Coke is out of the question? Don’t shoot me for the suggestion, I couldn’t imagine going from high fructose corn syrup to sucralose, either ;) However the opposite thought is much worse…

I think you’ll feel much better & more productive drinking the healthier things you mentioned.

  2. Christopher says:

I find this very tough. I used to be a bit of a gym rat before I started into this, but I have a hard time doing it now.

The thing about working at home, is that work and home are way to close.

  3. Jon, I’m sure coke harms your body in other ways than just putting more weight. I head the sugar and caffeine levels in coke are not good for your body. 6 cokes a day is a overkill I think.

I too drank a lot of coke per day, so I gave it up for lent. Still going strong!

  5. Funny, I just finished a 7 day stretch without any chocolate. I was kinda addicted to chocolate chips and almonds as a snack I keep by my computer. Had to break that habit so I could sleep at night.

I also gotta get back to the gym and use that membership I’ve been paying for.

Thanks for the reminder that we as affiliates need to do more than sit in front of the computer all day…and night.

  6. EN7 says:

I find having a bench and some weights in your bedroom helps a lot!

I also have a funky little twist stepper which really helps burn the calories.

I take 2 hours out, 3 days a week to train and then straight back on my PC working on campaigns.

I am going to be giving up Dr. Pepper. Eeek

  8. Sam says:

Jonathan, 6 cokes a day will have some serious consequences. You’re young now but gout, diabetes and a host of other preventable horrible diseases are strong possibilities in your thirties. Gout is becoming an epidemic amongst young sodaholics in our country. You think working at home is bad, how about being immobile and in excruciating pain, too? I suffered from gout–I don’t wish that on my worse enemy. “not good for your body” is an understatement.

  9. Trypp says:

Having a friend work out with you is definitely good. I hired a personal trainer to train myself and my coworker 3 times a week. It’s brutal at times, but feels great after the session. I’ve been doing this for I guess almost 3 months now. Staying in shape will help you stay focused. It’s helped my business grow.

  10. Skinny Bitch says:

Are you serious? The only thing you need to drink is water. Vitamin Water and Propel will even make you fat.

  11. Joshua says:

I am doing the same thing as we speak! I am also a avid Coke drinker… probably 4-5 20oz’s a day! But… I am on my 6th day with absolutely no soda! First few days sucked because I need flavor! I found out the crystal lite raspberry ice in a bottle of poland spring water is delightful and not to mention is helps me forget about coke because it tastes so good and only has 10 calories.

  12. Nicky says:

Possible Ideas for next weeks challenge:

    Acai Burn + Colon cleanse
    Pure Colon Cleanse
Acai Patch (For those hardcore affiliate like Wee)

  13. Andrew says:

Diet coke is much better for you than vitamin water…

  14. Totally agree with you on the health thing. Whilst I am not full-time affiliating yet, I hope it is not far away. I’m spending all my time on the computer when not working the day job and its a huge slog! I definitely do not exercise enough and that is something very important.

Remember exercise is just as important as diet!

  15. Its quite tough for me to have 6 -7 coke per day. Its one kind of addiction which sometimes takes you more than your capacity.

  16. We should get in the habit of drinking just water. I only drink water with my lunch now. No more concentrated orange juice.

  17. Redjeki says:

I work at home with not drink soda .. because I don’t drink soda .. I prefer hot tea..

  18. I think a good way to earn money at home and a good way to success in life.Thanks…..

  19. Billy says:

Actually, it is best if you don’t drink DURING a meal at all. It waters down your digestive juices in your stomach, making it harder to digest your food. The notion of “washing the food down” is outdated.

  20. I know what you’re talking about Johnathan. It’s always been crazy working home getting fat…so what i did was bought a treadmill. For mornings afterwards nights. I’m back down to my original size now, thank God.
