When you're going to do some marketing / advertising on a site, it's important to know who your demographics are.
If your offer is to females, then you should be targeting sites and places where females generally "hang out". If you're targeting males, do the same. If you're targeting retired people, then make sure you know where they go.
This morning I came across a chart that lists the % of male to female on all the major social media sites. It can prove pretty helpful for sure when deciding which site to target.

I came across a fascinating report on the demographics of social network users. Rapleaf ooked at user profiles and demographcs for the major social networking sites (MySpace, LinkedIn, Friendster, Plaxo, and Hi5 ) as well as for Facebook.

Ya, I am agree with you. In some cases, male and female have different test or opinions, so we need to use social networking by dividing into two segments.
