Hey,

The cat food formula thing is only 2% of everything, but a little creative thinking can easily fill in the rest of the gap. Pick a niche, go out and find ads for that niche on Adsense blocks, see what they are doing -- then do it completely differently.

Good post.

if you narrow it down you can see that theres only a couple ways the formula could have worked. keep in mind that the content network is also a numbers game, the lower CPC you can get, the better.

Yeah, the "cat food forumula" is great. except that:

" I guess I should clarify a bit: that formula is only 2% of everything. There are a couple of elements that account for 98% of what produces the conversion, which will remain for my eyes only."

thats helpful.

Hey Jon,

You're right, content network is not dead. In fact, I have certain projects where all I use is the content network to save on costs.

Here's one way I treat CN different than Search campaigns:

1. Ads - one thing that I've found works miracles on CTR is to set your ad up like it's a testimonial.

EXAMPLE:

Cheap Hosting That Works?
I Get Huge Bandwidth And Space
For Less Than $10 Per Month!

or

Dude, This Is Awesome
400 Gigs Of Bandwidth And 99.9%
Uptime For Only $10 A Month!

Good luck everyone!

Yeah I wonder too how do you treat it differently? Different ad structure, different ads than in search?

LOL! Its not dead...you've heard every "super" affiliate marketers say this crap all the time : "think outside the box."

I use to hate that phrase, because I can't even barely think inside the box, let alone outside! But now I understand what they mean. There's a particular way to run stuff on the content network...just not the way search network is done. You'd be surprised.

Here's a tip: exclude myspace. They suck for conversions....

I have been trying affiliate marketing for about 2 months now, and havn't been able to make a profit unfortunately =( I set up a few content network campaigns yesterday and none of them are showing any impressions. Asking Google about it, they say the campaigns are in queue to be approved. I wish they would at least show you your campaign is pending approval, I have no way of knowing if its still in queue or if my bids are too low to get any traffic. Im working hard every day to try and make a profit, trying Adwords search & content network, Yahoo search marketing... getting nowhere. I dont know what the heck im doing wrong, I'll just keep plugging away.. back to work!
