I'm sure that everyone has seen a typical sales page on some site.

The truth is these sites do sell but this post is not about making a typical sales page (or your money back! hahaha). This post is about the most important factor on those sales pages that you can use on all your pages.

This single most important factor that every single sales page will have is a headline.

Surprisingly headlines are very important. They reaffirm to your visitor that they're going to get what they wanted when they clicked onto your page.

If your headline is not clear / visible or does not reaffirm the purpose of coming to your site, you need to change it.

When split testing your landing page, start with your headline on the landing page.

True - I’ve heard the headline accounts for up to 80% of the total improvement one sees on a page. So if you’re all up in the 80/20 buzz, then this is the best place to start.

1) Can you point to someone’s landing page (maybe from the google search result ads) as examples?

2) Some offers allow the data to be posted via get in the url when sending the customer to the vendor’s form page. Are we supposed to utilize the landing page this way? Or does having information with a simple action button work as well. I want to start using landing pages, but I feel that creating more pages before the customer fills out a form, will only discourage them, thus decreasing conversions.

Oh, and your posts are great! Keep up the great work.

What you do is look at some of the big names in IM sales pages and take notes of their headlines or start a swipe file. Then whenever you need to craft a headline you can refer back to this.

Hey Gurpreet:

It’s unethical to post other people’s landing page on a public website. You wouldnt want your landing page posted so I dont do that to other people. Just search for free ringtones on google and yahoo and you’ll see a bunch of those type of pages.

2. This has always increased conversions when I did it. :) As high as 80% conversion rates! :)

I agree that you should make your headline very clear and try to get a hold of surfers. Make sure they know what you are pitching and make sure that they get tempted ;)
