Very eyecatching indeed.

That kind of ad should certainly pay off ... at least for now since it's new. Once everybody will have that kind of ad on their website or blog, the readers eyes will get used and they'll no longer pay attention.

Being new is the key in marketing. It makes you stand out of the crowd.
So congratulations to the people who came up with this ! :-)

I believe the only way to accomplish this effect is with Flash utilizing a rich media platform like Atlas (http://atlasrichmedia.com/) to accurately deliver the content. Here, timing is key and using two separate gif's would almost be impossible to sync properly. Using one gif, to encompass both ad spots, would work but likely would not be an acceptable ad size format.

@ fatcow - Cooler, perhaps. But using 4 blocks would likely accomplish less than more b/c it would be too busy on the eye, especially if trying to get a message across as it would be difficult to get the end user to focus on any one block. Two blocks work best in this case, cheaper to develop and less costly to serve up.

It would have been even cooler if they used 4 125x125 ads instead of 2.

That's pretty creative! Sure, it's double the space but the first time anyone sees it, they're bound to take a closer look.

I dunno if it's too far out of someone's budget. You can get something like this done for $30 - $50 on scriptlance.com or freelancer sites like it.

And would seem more like an investment then a purchase since it will most likely make you money.
