But I Have Nothing To Write About!

Monday, Dec 17th, 2007 by Jonathan Volk

A common misconception with email list building is that you have to send them stuff constantly and right from the start.

While sending people emails a couple days after they subscribe can give you the best conversion rates, it's not necessary.

When I first started building lists of emails, I signed up for Aweber. I would research everything I could on the subject and then write a short, helpful ebook which I would give away for free. Generally, I like to use the hover ad option in Aweber's control panel. HoverAds are pretty much the highest converting ways to capture emails. (In my experience that is - not verified with a 3rd party source)

Now after I had given them the free ebook, I didnt do much. I just let the list build up.

As I continue to learn more, I'll send them updates and information and such. It works great.

My point being is that you dont have to do a lot of work to start building an email list. And who knows, maybe you'll find yourself getting 1 to 40 subscribers a day like I have seen on some of my websites. Just think what you could do with a list of 1000+ double opt-in, leads. Additionally, there are some exclusive email only offers that generally pay higher, so that's always nice. :)

Now get to building! Quick over view:

  • Join Aweber. (price is roughly $20 bucks / month but I signed up for the year plan to save $60 bucks)
  • Write a short helpful ebook. If you need ideas, check other sites.
  • Give it away in exchange for a name and email. (Name is important to personalize the emails!)
  • Write followup emails as you feel - you dont need to write a full campaign out right away. Doing so will increase your conversions however.
  • See instant increase in your profit!
  • Hope this helps!
