Adwords - Domains

Google seems to remember domains very very well.

I had recently purchased a domain name that was created in 2004. I thought it would be good for my campaign to have a bit of age. What I didnt think about is that google may already have a quality index for this domain.

For about 2 months, I tried everything I could to increase the quality score on this domain, but no matter what keywords I put in, no matter how much I tweaked my landing page, I would always get a POOR Quality score. Doh!!!

So I decided to try a little experiment. I registered a different TLD of the domain name and behold, "Great" quality score. Same keywords, same landing page, same information.

That being said, if you're having trouble in google, just register a new domain name.

Some more google tips coming soon (Since I've been posting so many yahoo tips, I think it's time to even things out)

Glad I could help. :) Test it out and let me know if it works for you too.

yup..i never thought of that either, yet its something so simple. My first step right now is thinking of a domain name. Do i actually register a domain name and focus that domain name as a product? or as a company? Im guessing registering it as a product for example “gamingheaven.com” if i have offers to do with gaming, would sound right since search engines read domain names better that way.

Nice tip,
I’ve actually come across the same thing. I’ve had all kinds of trouble with trying to improve a poor quality score. So I then moved the modifications of my landing page to a new domain and then got a quality score of “Great” right away. It just requires some testing when you run into these situations.

Great tip man. Good news that a new domain name can actually work to your advantage here :).

Also, I have heard that sometimes domains from reseller accounts can have better ranking with Google. Not confirmed though, as I do not own a reseller account, but multiple sources have claimed this to be true in helping their domain get a lower min. bid.

I am slowly learning how to deal with the dreaded Google Slap, using some programs to create dynamic landing pages that will make the page relevant for WHATEVER keyword one chooses :) Simply love it

when you have a domain name, what do you got to do in order to get approved by yahoo? Does it have to have a landing page in order to be approved by them? Thanx

Chris,

You must have a domain to advertise in yahoo. :)

Thanks,
Jonathan
