stressedDon't worry, it's not you. Tomorrow is a holiday in the United States - Thanksgiving. It happens around every holiday that a few days before (often a week before a major holiday) that internet traffic as a whole slows down just a bit.

This often leads affiliates and people in the internet marketing wold to believe that there is something wrong, advertisers are scrubbing, or similar.

If this is happening to you, just accept it. If you're unprofitable, Pause the campaign until the following Monday. (At least this is what I would do)

All that to say, whenever you are having issues with a campaign always remember to think about seasonal holidays, days of the week, etc.

It is amazing to me how you can chart out conversions over a long period of time and certain days always seem to convert best. I had an offer that I ran for almost 2 years and nearly every Monday and Tuesday I would have great conversions and then it would begin to taper down with Saturday being the worst day. It's funny how that works.

  1. Itshard for me to stop my mind from thinking about internet marketing through the holidays. So I never thought that it would affect my traffic flow.

I thought it was me. :)
I have things pop on Sundays after a slow Saturday myself. Beginning of the week is very good like you say.

hi i was surfing around and i came across this blog and its very good and i would like to make some new friends!

  4. hackcorp says:

Yeah, I started to think that the advertisers are scrubbing. I get more traffic, less conversions. :-/ Even on offers where visitors dont need to buy anything. Are you sure they are not scrubbing to get an extra $ for a turkey party? :)

  5. I am not surprised. People get really tired cooking, cleaning, etc. They are happy to go to the office and and make believe they are working. Now they allow to browse internet at work. I worked for a huge company recently. The entire company was watching football. There was a big problem with bandwidth. Next day VP was mad.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Jonathan, you got me there. This title is really great, everybody will be interested in it :) .

  7. Funny thing that I stumbled upon this post as I was just thinking to myself “scrubbing”. But it is amazing how holidays, days of week, events, can affect traffic and conversions. As an e-commerce manager I saw this happen a lot and accepted it as the norm, but as an affiliate marketer it bothers the hell out of me.

In general yup that is what I’ve noticed that during the holidays traffic in general goes down for most websites, but its something we all just need to anticipate like you said in your post.

    Till then,

    Jean

  9. That’s really great information to know. This is my first year blogging on Thanksgiving and I had noticed my traffic has been tapering down the last couple of days (mixed with the fact that I’ve been to busy to promote much either).

it’s amazing how the longer you do this, the more trends you see and the more you can optimize.

  10. Dino says:

Anyways happy thanks giving, naturally traffic would be low on Saturdays and sometimes Sundays due to less people being online or recovering from the weekend etc, including special holidays or public holidays have to be taken into consideration. :)

  11. Yes this is a common occurrence with website traffic. I remember having to explain the situation to panicking bosses in the past. They see the traffic dropping and they don’t stop to take the holidays into consideration.

@Aluminum well that sounds like it worked out to your advantage, I bet you saved your bosses alot of money during those days =D by advising them to the right path.

Speaking of which, During thanksgiving day, my normal earnings were cut in half.

      Till then,

      Jean

  12. ATV for Sale says:

Jonathan it sounds like you need to turn that campaign off on Saturdays. This shows the importance of paying attention to trends caused by holidays or even the day of the week. When you know exactly when you are converting the best, you can take advantage of that by advertising more on t hose days and less on slower days.

I am am tired of other driver’s slowing down to look at accidents when the road would otherwise be clear. How likely is it that they know any of the involved parties!!!

  14. Experimental says:

it is a sub concious thing, like a reflex reaction. and more so in other not to repeat it and so that it does not happen to them. some people do it out of sympathy and shock, which slows you down.

Yes this is a common occurrence with website traffic. I remember having to explain the situation to panicking bosses in the past.

  16. Thanks for pointing this out. It is indeed funny, it happens every holiday, but not being an American, I didn’t really think of Thanksgiving :-)
Anyway, it’s gonna happen again soon, Christmas, new year…
