In ANY business, either starting or running, it is important that you learn when to outsource certain projects or tasks.
For example, I think one of the most commonly overlooked aspects of outsourcing is Taxes and accounting.
Way too often starting business owners want to do everything themselves. So when it comes time to incorporate, do taxes, etc, they would rather try to research it and learn all if it for themselves.
Often these professionals are worth more than what they cost. A good accountant can often save you more money on taxes and throughout the year than if you had tried to do it yourself.
This is a problem I have had to learn to get over and am still working on. See, as an internet marketer (or whatever business you choose), you focus should be on building more campaigns, optimizing, and making the cash money.
I believe that the biggest part that holds people back is fear. Having never hired an accountant, designer, coder, etc before can often be a daunting task and the fear of the unknown can make you just rely on yourself.
It's really not as bad once you do it so just go and do it!
What are some things that hold you back? What do you need to outsource more?

I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
I’m actually just going through the process of going full time with affiliate marketing so I’ve been in touch with a few accountants etc to handle that side of things. It can be daunting but in my opinion speaking to someone who knows what they are doing would not be as daunting as having the tax forms in front of you which need filling in correctly
I haven’t done any outsourcing for my affiliate stuff just yet but I’ve been hunting for copywriters to handle some other projects which can be annoying and stressful but when you find the right person – it makes it so much easier.
As a designer/coder I tend to do all of my designing and coding myself, also I’m pretty good at english so all my ad copy and content etc I tend to write myself.
I think it’s easy to learn design/coding because there’s only so much you need to know in order to get good results, however when I have to fill in tax forms to join networks or manage my income and expenses I tend to get a bit swamped when I try and manage it myself with a spreadsheet.
I prefer going it alone and I think a lot of people feel safer this way, but if I started making serious monthly money I’d consider a second set of hands for my finance!
Hey Jonathan -
Just to expand on one item in your post.
One of the biggest mistakes business owners make IS outsourcing things like taxes and accounting because they don’t want to know anything about it.
Nothing wrong with outsourcing itself but very important to understand the basics of even taxes and accounting for your business.
I have seen too many stories where this part of the business gets outsources and the owner suffers in many different ways. Including:
- underpaying tax
- overpaying tax
- incorporating when not needed
- theft/embezzlement
- bad bookkeeping
- bad cash flow planning
- use of debt when not needed
- operating at a loss and not knowing it because the books were wrong
- etc.
I guess my point being that outsourcing in itself is ok but it’s important to understand the basics of accounting and even taxes before handing it over to someone, in my opinion.

I think you just have to find reliable people, but it’s hard sometimes.
I started to do outsourcing after some time. When I understood that it will save my precious time. You’re right in most cases it costs less than your time)
Of course, outsourcing can make your business more productive – if you know when to take advantage of it.
