Well, it seems that because of all the Google bans / Slaps recently, that Google has to make up that revenue some how!
Just think about all the extra revenue that they are missing out on. I know people who were spending tens of thousands every day in google that recently were banned. People spending MILLIONS of dollars a year and just got dropped like a red headed step child.
Of course in the scheme of things, tens of millions of dollars that Google is now missing out on from dropping these advertisers is really pittance compared to the $5.523 Billion that they make a quarter. That's ~$60,692,308 a day (head explodes).
So how does Google plan to make up for all the changes? Something we should be doing as internet marketers...
They're refining their landing pages!
In this case, they've updated two major aspects of their sites that I have seen.
In my opinion, these changes should increase revenue by a fraction of a percent. In this economy of scale, a fraction of a fraction of a percent is enough to make up for millions and tens of millions.
Changes to the Google Landing Pages
First, Youtube.
They recently have been putting more emphasis on the search. They did this by redesigning their front page ever so slightly to make the search bar a LOT more prominent and auto focused cursor as soon as you load the page.
(Auto focus = good tip, thanks Google)

But why would they do this? Easy... They make money on search results now that they have their own in house advertising system.
One small design change equates to a TON of extra cash I'm willing to bet.
Google Search Changes
Have you noticed the change yet? Chances are, if you're on a widescreen monitor (which is what 90% of new monitors are), you've noticed.
This most recent change was moving the ads on Google search to not be right justified in their positioning. Instead, the ads are right justified up to a point but after a certain point are stuck, closer to the organic results, producing a higher CTR.
Now again, this CTR increase is going to be very small, but more clicks over billions of searches, equals money. A lot of money.
So, yes, even the big Google makes "landing page" changes. They realize the importance of optimizing your current traffic to make the optimal amount of money. As internet marketers, we can take a lot from this lesson.
Let's hope these changes help the ol' GOOG, the (by far) largest stock investment I have.
Notice any other changes? Post them here!

They had to make some extra cash somewhere in addition they need to grow revenue and earnings at 20% a year to keep their current stock price. So they must bust it all day long to keep up the pace.
I thought I noticed a difference with the youtube search bar thing. The adwords thing is much more noticable. I haven’t noticed any other changes, but I’m sure they’ll keep coming.
Would be great to make a little tweak like this and make a few million more

I think that Google has a few more tricks up their sleeves then we know about. With the recent 2nd Google Search Engine Beta being release everyone thinks that they made this decision since the recent Yahoo & MSN deal to improve Bing. I beg to differ. I know Google switched to the world wide web # 2 because they are getting ready for the big government censorship that Rockefeller is looking to push with the recent Internet Cybersecurity Act 2009. Just my 2 cents take it for what it is.
Google is really doing some changes regarding searching as yahoo and msn have made the deal.
great! thanks
Wow…60 mil a day, that’s almost unfathomable haha. But yeah there really is a lot we can learn from google as marketers, good insight John. I can’t wait for google 2.0!
