In a few posts back, I talk about relationships.
Twitter is quickly becoming one of the great ways to connect with people and make yourself more of a face instead of a name.
For me, I've begun to connect with a few people who have done really well in the industry that I previously had not really connected with on a personal level.
Its seems like the more I use twitter, the more I realize the power in networking via twitter.
See many times when people want to "network" with me or others that have some sort of experience, they hit me up on AIM, say "hey" and proceed to ask me question after question.
This is not a way to network.
The way you network is by first building a relationship. Give a little, don't expect to get a lot up front.
That being said, twitter is a great way to build a relationship with people.
If you have not yet created a twitter account, go make one now!
After you've made your twitter account, follow me and I'll follow you back.
The other person you want to follow is NickyCakes! The reason you want to follow him is because by doing so, you enter yourself into a drawing to win a free 40" Samsung HDTV! There are other ways to enter, so please be sure to check the rules first..
See you in twitter land.

Twitter is definitely and unbelievable tool for networking and building relationships, especially if you use it the right way. Which brings me back to the point you made above when you said “The way you network is by first building a relationship. Give a little, don’t expect to get a lot up front. ” So true!
I find that way too many people on Twitter are just trying to follow as many people as they can and are only on there to hard sell everyone without any desire to build relationships.
What they will soon find out though is that the more they jam their products down peoples throats without building a relationship with their followers first, the more people that are going to Unfollow them, Block them, and definitely NOT buy whatever it is their selling.
So the moral of the story is: Be human, Be real, and then (and only then!) will you really start seeing the true power of Twitter!
I have found twitter a great way to connect with people that usually wouldn’t have time to talk with me. As a networking tool Twitter has a lot of potential.
Excellent post. Last year when I first started using Twitter I didn’t get it but stuck with it. It is by far the best tool I use to network. I’ve met so many people in the industry by using it as more of a networking tool as opposed to strictly a marketing tool. I think it is best to not worry about how many followers you have, but focus more on building quality relationships with new people.
Twitter is a great tool to network with people. I still need to network more. It is getting to the point of who can get the most users following you which is ok but to a point. You can get your blog posts to huge range of people which is always good. That is what I like about it. Greg Ellison
Ya, Twitter is really awesome when it comes to building relationships with all the important people who are pretty hard to get to using regular methods. (Heck! I bet that a carefully-constructed Tweet good guarantee a response from Shaq.)
