It amazes me how much of online business relies on email still.

Email is the primary way I communicate in my business. For this reason I wanted to write a post about one of the best things I have done for this sector of my business.

Most people are unaware you can do this, but all my important email addresses are actually hosted and use the gmail mail servers. This includes their spam filters, etc. All emails are directed to my outlook email inbox still. My own domain (thanvolk.com) is pointed to google's mail server and I get it all delivered to my outlook inbox.

This is a great way to increase productivity and one of the best moves I have made when it comes to email.

I say I increased productivity because when I would host the email on my own servers, I would get so much spam that it would take so much longer to filter everything out. Besides that, I would also have trouble receiving mail from certain carriers because I am far from an email mail server expert.

So to sign up, you can go to Google.com/a and either sign up for the premium account for $50 / year or get it free as a standard account.

If you're full time and have your own domain email, I highly recommend signing up for this service.

I use google apps since 2 years and always loved it. I upgraded to premium last year. What other tools do you use to improve productivity? i.e. I used roboform and now 1passwd for form filling, Search status etc.. Would love to listen few words about it.

I agree…google mail is the best thing since sliced bread. My spam count went waaay down when I switched my domain to googles servers.

Now you should check out google voice :)

I’m on this for sure… didn’t know Google offered a “business” service. Thanks for the tip Jonathan… you always come up with new productive ways man.

I agree 100% I’ve been using Google Business Tools for over a year (maybe more) for my Company. Even though we’re small (6 of us) it gives us some amazing collaborative tools which would have been out of reach a few years ago.

BTW nice site, just ran into you today but will likely drop by regularly – also adding you to me RSS feeds.

    Cheers,
    Dan

I signed up all my blogs to separate Google Apps accounts last month. It’s a pretty nice service. I can’t wait for them to add Google Voice as one of the apps you get access to.

  10. Setting up mail servers is a serious pain in the neck compared to this solution and it’s cheap too. Thanks for the heads up.

  11. Ronnie says:

Yeah good to see that some one is sharing such a good tool because normally we don’t like to share such things.

  12. Google currently has enough say in how I run my business. I don’t want them to have their hands on my email as well.

  13. Great case study, it really is true Google email is the best solutions available and it is much cheaper than Exchange. Google have so much money they can afford the best servers to provide an excellent service for really cheap!

  14. Google has really nice email services. And thats also right about google can manage to pay for the best servers.

  15. Paul says:

Not to mention you get Google Calendar, Reader, etc… all together with your Google App instance. Best!

  16. Michael says:

For the first time I heard about this, thanks for the clarification ……………

  17. Dan says:

I’ve recently shifted over, saved me a ton of down time :)
