Why You Need A Job To Start Affiliate Marketing

Learn the techniques I used to make over $4,000,000 in affiliate commissions! Check out my Free Affiliate Marketing Guide and learn the "how to" for Facebook Ads, PPC Affiliate Marketing, PPV / CPV Affiliate Marketing, And Media Buying!

I get emailed often (At least 2-7 times a month) from people who are asking me to teach them how to become affiliates because they have lost their job and want to jump into affiliate marketing.

I always turn these type of people down for any sort of mentoring because I believe affiliate marketing is something that takes an income to really break into.

Just like you pay for an education (and a sizable amount at that), there really are things you won't learn unless you pay for them yourself.

You need to have a bit of playing money that comes in steadily each month as you attempt to coerce the google and yahoo beasts in to sending you clicks.

Recently, I consulted with a guy and I mistakenly allowed him to consult with me even though he had no job at the moment. When I talked to him, things were going well until he realized that there is no secret formula and that it takes actual work and testing.

Things went south from there and he ended up charging back the consulting fee after I had spent all this time with him on getting a campaign profitable. Funny enough, after he had charged back, I created the campaign and using the exact same instructions I had given him, was able to make the campaign hit a small profitable level.

I am now tweaking and testing the campaign and going to relaunch it soon as one of my bigger campaigns. He missed out on that because he was unable to stick through the testing phases due to the stress that having no income produces.

So all that to say, if you don't have a job, I would highly recommend getting even a part time job FIRST and then trying to work on affiliate marketing. Focus your efforts as much as possible (focus on one niche first), and then go from there.

Jon – I completely agree with you. People should have some $$$ set aside before they start.

Please don’t realize how much work it takes to make a living through the internet. It is a lot of work!!!!

To bad the guy didn’t stick around. He could have gained a lot by listening to you.

    Andy

    Hi Jonathan,

This is a difficult issue I really don’t know how to fix that.
When I was student one my business teacher say for one guy he want to build up a business don’t go to the bank manager for the loan. If next week you bring $1000 for your business I will give you $3000 cash and the next week my buddy find $1000 and the teacher say to him.
You see last week you didn’t have any idea how to find $1000 after one week you make it. HOW

often this kind of private consulting work end like this, people think that is like if they just sit down and see the money, well after some time it could be like this. Is not necessary be an expert but actually you need to know a lot of stuff, programming, design, writing, take smart decision, and to me be an entrepreneur, AM is not for employee mindset.
to me is better solution just make an ebook, so you write the book one time and you get the money severals times.

You know I used to really enjoy coming to your site, and finding good information about PPC and affiliate marketing. You havent posted anything worthwhile is quite sometime. There are ways to start online and make money by freelancing to get money for PPC. But where the heck are the good posts about real information?

  6. Tip Jar says:

^^ lol, you need proper English skills too simon.

But yeah, I work part-time and go to school. It’s tough to fit in affiliate marketing and there’d be no way to do it without some startup money. Even if you have no money, you have to weigh the opportunity costs, and the opportunity cost of trying to find free ways to make money online don’t outweigh what you could make at a part-time job, unfortunately.

I cant believe that guy did that to you , wait ya i can… there are some real jerks out their. The guy didn’t even know what he was missing by having you tutor him. Plus to have a profitable campaign right under his nose. Whatever this guy was a looser.

Yes i also totally agree, you have to have money coming in to make AFF Marketing work. The old saying you have to have money to make money seems to still apply.

  8. Tip Jar says:

Also, how do we get PPC consulting from you? I’d pay up

  9. Christien says:

I was laid-off but fortunate to have so much in savings to give this a real shot for several months. It is time and money invested learning the things you don’t know (in my case programming), and then learning how to focus on a few niches. After all that, you still have to work hard to stick with it. I’ve started a few business and they all take about a year before they hit the black…if you hustle.

  10. Tip Jar says:

^in reply to the comment above, do you think that you need to know programming to make it in affiliate marketing?

I’m just beginning affiliate marketing, and it definitely does take some cash…..cash to win, and cash to lose.

Make sense. My mum always said “it’s easier to get a job if you already have a job.” I find that more and more true as I get older.
