Many times we as affiliate marketers or internet marketers in general, we want to make the quickest buck with the least amount of effort.

Heck, I've been there, done that.

What I'm finding is that affiliate marketing is more than just trying to get the most amount of leads possible. A good affiliate perspective to have I want to make company X a lot of money and make myself a lot of money.

When you are keeping the company in mind, it helps you to think of ways to actually generate worthwhile leads or sales and in turn, the companies are going to pay you more and be very happy with you. This is what establishes long term income that can eventually become (nearly) passive income for you.

Passive campaigns are certainly my goal so this is something that I'm working towards doing.

It's the people who's sole purpose is to send as much traffic no matter what in hopes of making a quick buck that ruins offers for a lot of us.

This is just a small mindset shift that I am currently going through. I'm trying to remember, keep the advertiser in mind at all times.

I definitely, out of necessity, plan on long-term success with my marketing campaigns. I’m looking 3-6 months down the line instead of 1-2 days. I’m more of a long-term investor than a day trader.

That’s a really good point. Once you focus on what the lead’s needs are, and what it is they want… then you’re almost sure to earn more money for the affiliate and in turn yourself. People aren’t mindless idiots who just click on ads, or sign up for stuff, or purchase trink-its, etc. Esp. if your niche is MMO. I would assume people who are looking for information on MMO are going to be a little brighter, so offer an ad that is helpful to securing their goals.

Great point – I learned that one the hard way. I started sending leads for a high-end publisher but my leads weren’t so “high end”. Ended up getting fired w/o warning. While the merchant handled it w/ little class and gave no indication as to how they wanted the product positioned, I should have been proactive in having that conversation. As it was, I left myself wide open to having leads reversed (which didn’t happen) or being axed and sending traffic down a black hole before I realized it (which did happen).

Hope that helps a new marketer. Also, make sure your niche has a couple merchants so all your hard work doesn’t go in the can if one guy turns out to not be a good partner.

  4. Building an internet business is a marathon vs a sprint. I as well had to learn the hard way!
