Setting Goals And Rewards

If you've been reading this blog for any length of time, you'll probably know by now that I love goals. It's fun (when you hit them), It's exciting, It's motivating, and my favorite part... it can be rewarding.

For me, the most recent goal has been a long struggle to hit $400,000 in commissions in a single month. It's quite a difficult task for me because I'm having to change my mindset (view one of my favorite posts: the HOW mindset) and think of new and creative strategies for increasing my income.

Well this month, even though I probably won't be hitting the $400,000 mark, I still believe that I'm going to finally break past this $170,000 plateau that I've been stuck at for a few months now.

As my income continually increases, there is only so much I can spend on stuff. I like to continue living in a comfortable manner that is not in excess. What I do however is set a goal and when I reach that goal, I do something nice for myself or girlfriend or family.

So here is my goal list that I have been thinking about and I'd love to see what kind of goals and rewards you guys have! This kind of stuff is neat to me!

  • $250,000 / month - Lasik Eye Surgery... Because this month is going so well, I decided to schedule an appointment for next week. :) Let's hope I can stay on track!!! hahaha.
  • $300,000 / month - Buying a nice computer for a friend of mine... He deserves it. :)
  • $400,000 / month - Buying a Roland Drumset. I have been playing the drums since I was 13 and I have a electric set now but this one is my dream set. :)
  • $1,000,000 / month - Taking my entire family and girlfriend's family (hopefully wife by then) to Cabo San Lucas or something similar for 7 days.

    If you hit your million month during the winter go to Whistler BC.

    My first goal 1k a month resulted in a nice inflatable yard toy for my girls.

    I’m still shooting for the 10k month. Getting closer though. That reward might be my wife staying home with the girls. I believe it was you that said “happy wife, happy life”… :-)

    uh… if you are a “super affiliate” why not give yourself better rewards. I mean, if you were to take a zero off of any of those goals, you could still afford ALL of the rewards. Not sure if the goals or the rewards are junk… But hey, if you make that much money I have no business making fun of you.

    Hey Jeep Buyer…

    I keep as much money in the company as possible to buy tax deductible items. It’s not as rewarding just to go buy things randomly. I like to hit goals and reward myself with them.

    Jonathan,

    You have great financial discipline! A drum set @ $400K/mo! Honestly, I’d probably be looking at an expensive sports car at that level! :)

    I do think it’s a good idea to set rewards for each goal/milestone.

    20/20 did a story on a mega rich business owner now worth hundreds of millions who said when he started, he promised himself a new Ferrari the first $1,000,000/profit month his business hit. Said he rewarded himself with each milestone from then on.

    You are getting an eye surgery at 21? Man I thought I was the only one having trouble with my eye sight. Internet marketing does affect your eye sight.

    Hey Jon. Just a heads up, I was also looking for eye surgery. They said to wait till I was 25 because thats when I officially stopped growing and developing with my eyes.

    Also, I’m just curious. Forgive me if I’m being a pest. If you are making that much a month, I’m assuming not all of it is profit, why so little on the rewards? The rewards seem a little small. Can you afford expensive things with affiliate marketing and you just don’t want the fancy things?

    Sorry Jonathan but your gross revenues mean a Quack… tell us your NET PROFIT! A million in gross revenue does not mean a thing if you spend US$995,000 to get that million…

    @Buddy: My eyes havn’t changed in 2 years which is enough. Plus I got a lifetime plan which allows me to go back in if I need my eyes corrected again.

    Just because I make 6 figures a month in profit doesn’t mean that I need to live excessively… I try to make the money I have work for me via investments of all kinds. The more I spend the less I can do that with.

    The rewards are big enough for me because those are things that I like and want.

    @Patrick: Typical American thinking. You’re saying that $5,000 profit isn’t a lot to you? I’d gladly spend $995,000 a day to make $5000 profit a day. See, that is an annualized interest of 180% which you can’t even get in real estate or anything else.

    Either way… I make way more than that amount of a percent but how much means nothing to you seeing as my goals are based on gross and this is not a post about profit….

    OK you’r working on leverage and that’s ok, what i’m trying to say is that you’r reinvest 12 million dollars a year to gain “only” $250,000-$500,000 and that is an ROI that is ok but not spectacular. Again someone invests 12 million and is still in red, but i have to remind you that with such highly leveraged investment you can get wiped out completely if something goes wrong and i congratulate you that you had realized that you have to put lot of money on the side if black rain comes falling down.
