Part of affiliate marketing is losing money. While you can attempt to make as much safeguards against it, you're still never 100% promised to make your money back.

Yesterday was a bad day...

I woke up at around 8:00 and had to be at church at 8:30. They had asked me to pick some coffee travelers up from starbucks and mind you I live 15 minutes away from the church. Hahaha. Needless to say, I had no time to check my email before leaving.

I am in church when I get a text from a friend saying my server is either blocking them or is down. I think nothing of it because they said they tried to login to their ftp 3-4 times and I figure that my security software just put them in the infamous deny file. :)

Well, about half way through service I get my iPhone out because my mind is getting the best of me... What if it is down...

I pull out my iPhone and my server isn't responding. Doh.

The bad part about this was that the night before I had re-launched a campaign that on a good day can make up to $650+ while spending around $400ish. So I had all my campaigns active and by the time I got home from church at around noon, I had already lost $400.

I wish I could have used that money for a fun game or a new remote control helicopter. (I'm really in to RC Helicopters since buying my first one back when I first hit my first $1000 day)

Ouch. That hurts. Check out Wormly.com monitoring. I use them to monitor my websites and it works great. I know when Apache is down or when the monitor cannot find the specified keyword on a specific page anymore. I think it costs around $7/month or so.

What would be even better would be to use the adwords api to work out a script that would pause my campaigns when the destination urls are unreachable. Can’t wait until we get a good full-time programmer to whittle through wish-lists like that.

    3. Christoph says:

That would make a great combination, Matt. A) stop the campaigns and lose money and b) bring the server backup to avoid downtime and to start making money again.

What type of rc heli do you have. I used to be really into it and I am now thinking of selling out. any Trex Heli fans out there?
