Last night I was rushing to get a campaign up and add to a current one. It was around 1 AM so I was doing it as fast as I could so that I could sleep and see the sweet benefit of hard work in the morning.
Well, I learned a hard lesson on why you shouldn't rush...
First of all the campaign budget that I lost money on is $7,000 and normally I don't come close to that budget... Well today I woke up and BAM $7,000 spent in adwords. I quickly login to azoogleads... $3,500.
CRAP! What happened I thought to myself... I check the new adgroup that I added last minute to find that one of the adgroups I added I accidentally set the bids to $45 instead of $0.45... Yup that's right $45 dollars per click. OUCH.
So I was paying anywhere from $15 to $8 for keywords that I could probably get away with bidding $0.30 cents on for third position...
Yea. It sucked.
Mark this day as the biggest loss for me ever in one day, $3,500 lost.
It's ok though, I'll just have to make my profit margins increase in whatever way I can...
Oh man, that’s happened to me a couple of times… If they’re all search clicks Goog will usually give you a credit if you’re considered a good advertiser. They’re pretty good about that. If they were content clicks, often they can refund a portion anyway.

Yikes! That is some mistake… quick question for you Jonathon, and perhaps you won’t share… do you like to set up your PPC at a specific percentage of the payout? Yeah, I know trade secrets… but isn’t this the point of mmo blogs? Forgive me if it is listed somewhere else on your site. – T

Ouch, that is a costly mistake due to a small typo. I’ve edited my campaigns after working long stints so many times. I think I might need to be more careful as well:)

Sorry about your loss. However, if I read your post correctly. The advertising cost would have cost you about $200/300 for an offer that generates $3500 in revenues in one night. That is remarkable. Wish I could peek over your shoulder. As one of the comments stated above, I’d call Google to see if you can recover some of that money. They should realize it was a mistake and give you a nice credit. Its all about keeping the customer happy! Especially a customer like you who pay them a ton of money daily.

And doing mistakes is common, but this mistake brought you a huge loss.
Oh, that sure a lot of money! I had use YSM that can limit our daily spending and not yet use adword. So adward cannot limit our spending yeah?
Ouch! I thought at one time you would get a message asking you if you intended to bid that high on anything over $10 per click?
WOW!! I can’t even imaging losing that much overnight, you super duper affiliate guys sure know how to party! lol
