Interview: Shane Delisser
The subject of this week’s Friday Affiliate Interview is Shane Delisser, better known in the affiliate community by his online handle ShaneDollas. Though he’s only been in the industry for less than a year, he’s already made himself well known on the WickedFire forums.
Tell us a little background info about yourself. Where are you from? How old are you? How long have you been working in this industry?
I’m Shane Dollas, one of the hardest working affiliate out there. I love to play basketball hang out with my friends and make money all night long — “ALLL NIGHT.” I am 20 years old. Some say I’m cocky, others say I’m confident, but I’ll let you decide. I’m a lovable person, just ask the ladies. Making money is my game. There is no greater feeling than refreshing my account and and seeing the digits going up. I am a huge fan of Hip Hop, Reggae and Dance Hall. Music is my motivation when I’m on my grind. I grew up in Queens, NY aka “Q Borough Too Thorough.” I’ve been in affiliate marketing for about 8 months now and it’s cool. The love I have for my computer is deeper than anyone of these other affiliates out there have for their computers. I love my computer because the more time I spend with it is the more it makes me cash stacks.
What accomplishments so far are you the most proud of?
I am most proud of learning how to use the computer for what it’s meant for “CASH STACKS!!” Unlike other dull Internet users who are unable to unlock the real $$$ benefits of the computer, I was able to, and now I’m addicted to Mac & PC.
When did you first realize the full potential in affiliate marketing? When did you first “hit the big time?”
Well, one of my close friends online who was in a similar industry as Dollas before we got into AM, introduced me to the game. One day he hit me up and was like “Shane I made like 300k in 3 months from pushing Kits.” When he told me that it blew my mind. This was my internet adversary aka friend telling me this and now he was Bank Rolling way heavier than me. He got me setup then I figured the rest out on my own. When I was ready with some kits, the FTC came down on the whole grant operation. One month later I tried again with another Biz Kit offer. I had only 500 dollars to spend on ads. I spent that $500 dollars the first day not knowing what would happen, just giving it a shot. It turned out to be one of the craziest days of my life. I scored high 5 figure profit which was pretty intense for me.
What have been your biggest failures and frustrations?
Meeting the wrong business partner and sharing my secrets with that person. Now I know to keep my mouth shut. So if you come ask Shane Dollas for game, it’s not happening… Unless there’s Cash Stacks in it for both of us and Ryan Eagle approves you LOLOLOL…
What is the single toughest problem you’ve had to face, and how did you get through it?
One of the toughest problems I had to face was when my family was in financial hardships about a year back. My mom and I were attending college and with all the bills they had to pay it was hard to make ends meet. We would pay for our semesters on her credit card, and scrape pennies and dimes to pay it off. On top of that my parents still had to pay there mortgages every month and other expenses. I found this stressful, so I was always thinking of ways to make money. I started selling phones on craigslist and other little side hustles. One day I new it was a time for a change so I took my friend up on one of his offers and now here I am in affiliate marketing.
Is there anything that you don’t like to do, that you just hate working on?
Well honestly there isn’t really anything I don’t like.
What’s the best advice you could give to someone starting out in Internet marketing? Any pro tips you feel like disclosing?
Keep testing, keep pushing forward. A lot of people nowadays are too afraid to take risks. That’s why they’re stuck in the same position and can’t move forward not. I feel like if you really believe in something take the risk. I took a risk and it landed me on the road to pursuing, and living the Dollas Dream.
If it’s possible for you to share, are there any particular niches that you currently favor? Or that you aren’t necessarily in right now but that you would recommend?
Definitely rebills. I think people should try to go in and take a hold of the rebill niche before it dies out. As you know the FTC is setting in new rules for rebill offers so you got get it while its hot.
How has your education prepared you for your career?
Well, the only education I really needed was when I was a kid and my mom taught me how to turn on a computer. After that some magic happened and I was prepared for everything the Internet had to offer me.
No, my education didn’t prepare me at all for this. It was being on the computer all the time, creating and running a prior business online has prepared me for my career in affiliate marketing.
What are your greatest strengths?
My greatest strengths are the 3D’s Drive, Determination and Dedication. There is nothing I can’t do if I set my mind to it. If feeling like shooting for the stars I’ll make it to andromeda.
What is the best advice you’ve been given and try to apply to your life?
Money solves 9 out of 10 problems. When you have money, you have time and now you are able to solve the 10th problem. I’m not telling you go out there and just be greedy, get money however, but know money helps us a lot in this thing we call life…
Do you have any role models or people that you look up to?
Well I like 50 Cent, Larry Page and Mark Zuckerberg. These business moguls worked nonstop and I try to mimic their work ethics into affiliate marketing.
Who has impacted you most in your career, and how?
My mom, my dad, and my friend Robert. Their drive fuels me and makes me want to work harder.
Do you try to keep current with the latest Internet marketing news at all? What or who are your main sources?
Yea I try to keep up to date on everything. I check everybody’s blog: ShoeMoney, Jonathan Volk, ppc.bz, WickedFire, and sometimes John Chow.
What kinds of people do you have difficulties working with? Any good stories?
I have difficulty working with LIARS. People who try to say all the right things to impress but are only putting up a front so they can swindle you. There are a lot of fakes and liars in this industry. These sharks don’t know shit and that’s why I like to keep my circle small…
What are some of your long-term goals? How much is enough? If money was no object, what would you be doing?
Some of my long term goals are to open up different foundations for underprivileged kids all over the nation. I want my influence to go affect all those in a positive way. I also want to actually leave a good and solid mark in affiliate marketing. It’s never enough. Man is greedy and will continue to always want more and more and more. If I wasn’t into affiliate marketing I would probably end up being a nurse just because I was stuck in the box way of thinking…
What are your typical hours like? When do you just chill back? Do you have a usual day off?
Well I am always on the computer working, it’s not really a time off. I might go away for 3-5 hours but then I’m back on the job.
How do you like to spend your free time? What does work-life balance mean to you?
Well I like to chill with my friends and try to motivate them a lot. I try to teach them to think outside the box. I tell them “Teachers Open Doors, But You Must Enter Yourself.”
If you could go back to being 18, what different career choices would you make?
Well 18 was just 2 years for me ago so I wouldn’t change anything for the world.
If your Kindergarten teacher saw you now, what would surprise him/her about how you turned out?
I’m going to switch that question up. If my High School math teacher saw me now, he wouldn’t be surprised. He’d say “I told you so.” He knew I was always a hard worker that was always about my 1′s and 0′s === Cash Stacks.
What would you like to change about yourself?
Not knowing how to cook. I spend so much money on take out I wish I paid attention in the kitchen when my mom was cooking up those good homemade meals.
What is your greatest achievement outside of work? What are some of your unfulfilled dreams?
Well my greatest achievement is going out and helping people who are less fortunate than I am. I try to volunteer, like working and shelters and helping out kids during the summer. One of my unfulfilled dreams is to open up a foundation for underprivileged kids to give them a head start. I believe children are the future and they should have an opportunity to fulfill their dreams. Another one of my unfilled dreams is owning a multi-billion dollar corporation where everyone in my family can relax. They say “If You Dream It Then You Can Achieve It.” On that note I just wanna say “STACK OR DIE.” It’s a cold world out there, are you ready?
