In affiliate marketing via PPC engines, a huge part of the campaign is finding what keywords to use! Just as in anything, the more traffic you have, the more sales you make. That's why affiliates like me turn to programs such as Wordze, Keyword Elite, and Word Tracker.

Basically this is what helped me to get started with my affiliate campaigns which now generate up to $600 dollars a day, and nearly $10,000 dollars this month (July, 2007).

Because of the nature of this business, and me being greedy for more keywords, I have researched and purchased all the major keyword programs from Wordze, to Keyword Elite, to Keyword Companion, to Word tracker, and more. So far the best program I have used, hands down is Wordze.

With yahoo, grouped keywords are important! Thankfully, Wordze practically does this for you, making keyword and adgrouping extremely easy. Additionally, unlike programs such as Keyword Elite, you dont have THOUSANDS of keywords to filter through and make sure you dont have "lord of the rings" in your ring tone campaigns. (Actually happened to me :P).

Additionally, this tight grouping also greatly reduces the time you spend fine tuning your campaigns and removing impression hogging keywords!

The best part about Wordze is the broad search. Use the keyword finder, click options, broad match, then enter keywords like so: "Ringtones +cingular" instead of "cingular ringtones". There's my tip.

Personally I have used both Keyword Companion and keyword elite and I found this to be the best to build a huge keyword list.

This is an update to THIS post.

In my post about how to win with yahoo search marketing, I showed you one of my bad campaigns. A campaign that had fallen victim to yahoo search marketing's cruel punishment for not fine tuning your campaigns. I downloaded that campaign, deleted it, and set it up again using better adgroups, better ad copy, and an updated landing page / pages.

I started the campaign the day after I posted the first post. So far here are the results.

As you can see, we still have the initial surge... but the surge doesnt stop. It does go down a bit, during which time I fine tune the campaign every day. Over time, I've been seeing an increase in quality score (QS) and such because I try for a 4% ctr. I'm not there yet, but it's raising every day.

And this, my friends, is the sign that you've correctly set up your Yahoo Search Marketing Campaign.

Well I am finally seeing some break through with quality score in YSM and adwords.

After researching perhaps one of the most well know affiliate marketers, the rich jerk, I came across some rather amazing bits of information. Just a side note, there is a cool video on his site of him thumbing through hundreds of checks (many for $xxx,xxx)

First, I found what the common username of this "Rich Jerk" before he was known as the Rich Jerk. This was a difficult task but after a little research, I was sure that I knew the correct name.

Next, I looked up every bit of information regarding this user I could find. I found a couple bits of information that were amazing to me, strategies that I thought were good to try.

So, that being said, I have a couple ideas and strategies I am going to implement into my campaigns to get me to the top position of many highly competitive keywords for cheap. I'll report back with my findings.

Well today should end up as another record breaking sales day.

I expect to hit close to $600 dollars today with about a 60% profit margin. This should equate to $380 bucks profit. Not bad if you ask me. This is the second record breaking day this month! The first week of the month, I hit a $500 dollar day! Now, I'm breaking that by nearly $100 bucks!

I have been working hard this week and last week reworking some current campaigns. The coolest part about the record breaking day is that I actually have 1 campaign turned off! So... once I get that campaign reworked, I should expect to see $700 days very soon. That is, if sales continue the way they have been!

I called yahoo to talk about some stuff today. Man what great technical support they have. To be perfectly honest, I really like them better than adwords. I'm about to dabble some more with Adcenter, just have not had the time.

I plan on learning to coerce Adcenter and then the 900 lb Gorrila, Adwords.

Seeing as my sales are based 90% off yahoo, I should be able to well over double sales once I learn how to get Google's Quality score under control. I've been pouring hours into reading about Quality score and such and think I will be ready sometime next month to start. Man... what a beast of a project that'll be.

Dont you just love direct linking from search engine Pay per click to offers?!

What is direct linking?
With most affiliate offers you create a site (also known as a landing page) that pre-sells the user. They click the offer, and you get paid. Nothing new there. Direct linking is when you instead link directly to the offer rather than preselling the customer and hoping to make some quick cash... No site needed, no effort involved.

I'd say about 90% of the time this is unprofitable and doesn't work.

Originally when I started affiliate marketing I was making up to $250 bucks a day direct linking campaigns from PPC engines. I quickly found that profits and numbers dwindled after others caught on to the direct linking strategy for each niche I was promoting. I was continually having to recreate campaigns and find more offers to promote to keep numbers high.

Eventually I stopped direct linking all together and went with the whole preselling approach which in the long run, brings in a TON more cash and last's a lot longer.

Every once in a while, to the trained eye you can spot gems that are made for direct linking! I happened to catch such a gem recently. Basically the offer is about to expire so I dont mind sharing more details. There was a seminar that paid $16.50 to get a person to sign up for a FREE (FREEEEEEEEE) ticket in very localized areas.

Things to look for:
- Free! Who doesn't like free?!
- High payout for a free offer.
- Very targeted.

So, in about 10 minutes I put the campaign up directing some highly targeted keywords to only the areas the seminars would be in. 10 minutes of work equated to about $200 in profit. How awesome is that?

In hourly rates, that's about: $1200 bucks an hour. Lol. A good use of time? Yea.

Yessssssssss...

It's that time of the month where my big paychecks come in the mail. Today my Azoogleads check came, tomorrow my neverblueads check should arrive.

So far this is one of the single largest checks I have received from internet marketing.

UPDATE: Today (Day after this post was created), I received my neverblueads check! All the other checks I will get at the end of this month.

The great part about these checks so far is the profit margin. Though June was a record breaking month for me, I still didnt reach the goal I had wanted to reach, 5 figures. I did get pretty close though. This month, July, is the same case so far. I might be able to break 5 figure sales, depending on how well the next 2 campaign launches go. If not, I'll hit high eights or nine, which is ok with me.

I have been learning a TON about how to coerce Yahoo Search Marketing to doing what I want. It's pretty cool. Today I had an issue that I needed to speak with them about. I called them and they were very helpful and cooperative. I guess thats some of the perks of having 4 gold status accounts. For those who dont know, Gold status simply means you spend a lot and get special account privileges and customer support. It's great!

As things progress each day, I get more and more excited about the direction things are going. Once I hit the 5 figure mark, I plan to register the business name I have chosen and continue from there.

Another large step for me this upcoming month will be the hiring of an employee. Phew that's scary. I have made an agreement with a person whom I trust and respect online and will be paying them a predefined amount per month to work for me as a freelancer. This will ultimately help the company grow and give me a bit more time to... ya know... get a life.

I have a couple major sites which I am really looking forward to releasing soon. This person should help me do that in a timely manner.

Yahoo search marketing reminds me of a gentle giant. It takes a bit of coercing but once you have it tamed, it's great.

How do you know if you have it tamed or not? A sure sign that Yahoo search marketing is winning the battle is when you look at the first week of your search marketing campaign.

More often than not, people throw some keywords in, see great impressions / results the first days and leave the system to work it's magic. This is where they go wrong. The main factor to look for in a YSM account is to review your first week, and if you're one of the people described above, you'll probably see a surge in traffic (sometimes just impressions) the first couple days and then it will continually sink into a slum which I will properly name, the "YSM just owned you" slum. I'll show an example.

As you can see, the second day, we have the initial surge, which if it continued, could easily bring in a LOT of cash if you know what you're doing.

So how do you beat this beast? Well. The simple answer, dont be lazy. The not so simple answer... Work on getting your QS 5/5 and your CTR above average. (I shoot for 4% CTR which is really high). Use good keyword groups in your campaigns, and do not use keyword replacement unless you must and/or have a highly selective list of keywords that all work well with your ad.
